The Bergepanzer 2 is a tank recovery vehicle based on the Leopard 1 developed by West Germany as a successor to the Bergepanzer 1 (M88A1). Development started in 1963 and a prototype was completed in 1965. After being tested, the Bergepanzer 2 "Standard" was handed over to the West German Army in 1966.
